💌 From Rut’s Studio
The new year is already revealing what we’ve known all along: fashion doesn’t need to exclude—it needs to evolve.
And good news? Some brands are starting to get it.
In this issue, you’ll meet a startup challenging height bias in women’s clothing, you’ll be invited to our live webinar (in Spanish!), and you’ll discover tools and reflections to embed inclusion without adding complexity.
Design is about dignity, not difficulty. Let’s explore what that really means.

💡 Notice this
When “Standard” Sizing Isn’t Standard at All
A new brand, The Shortcut, is designing exclusively for petite women under 1m63. And it’s opening up a bigger conversation:
👉🏽 Standard sizing isn’t standard.
And it definitely isn’t inclusive.
This isn’t just about height — it’s about body diversity being left out of the design process.
👗 Sometimes, creating a specific line is the most empowering first step. Especially when the alternative has been invisibility.
But here’s the question I always come back to:
🧵 Could this need be solved within an inclusive system, not outside of it?
I’ve explored this in my own collections. Designing for petite adults (not children!) inside a unified size range is complex—but possible.
✨ What if we redesigned “standard” to start from real bodies?
💬 Have you tried integrating petite fit into your collections? I’d love to hear your experience.
🧠 Curious About
Body scanning is on the rise — but is it solving inclusive fit?
Technologies like 3D body scanning promise more accurate sizing by capturing real body data. It's a step forward — but not a full solution.
👀 The benefits:
✔️ Better fit predictions
✔️ Less product return
✔️ Insight into shape diversity
⚠️ But here’s what it doesn’t solve (yet):
✖️ Movement range
✖️ Dressing support needs
✖️ Sensory preferences
✖️ Accessibility in closures
🧵 Tech can support inclusive fashion — but it can’t replace inclusive thinking.
The challenge remains:
how do we combine data with lived experience to design for dignity, not just fit?
🧵 Innovation Corner
Design for Performance = Design for People
In this recent LinkedIn post, I reflected on how accessibility boosts product performance.
Too often, brands separate beauty from function. But truly inclusive design doesn’t sacrifice performance—it enhances it.
💡 Insight:
Fashion that performs for everyone will always outperform fashion that only looks good on a few.

🧶 Design as a Tool for Daily Independence
Adaptive details aren’t special—they’re essential. This post dives into how thoughtful choices (like one-handed fastenings) support independence and dignity.
