December 2025 – Special Holiday Edition

💌 From Rut’s Studio

Hello dear creators,

This year has been full of contrast.
I’ve seen incredible momentum around inclusive design — more people learning, asking, creating with purpose.
And I’ve also been reminded why we do this work:
Because in too many places, adaptive fashion isn’t a choice — it’s a necessity.

As 2025 ends, I’m holding space for both.
Pride in the progress.
Grief for what still needs changing.
And a deep belief that inclusive design is not just ethical — it’s the future of fashion.

Here’s to building it, thread by thread, together.

Bio‑Lens Technology: From Trend to Inclusive Opportunity

A recent trend I’ve been tracking is Bio‑Lens — advanced wearable lenses that can respond to a person’s body and environment in real time.
While still early, this points toward a future where garments and accessories could adapt dynamically to sensory needs, fatigue, or mobility challenges.

💭 Imagine: eyewear that adjusts for neurodivergent overstimulation, or garments that shift structure based on physical strain.

🪡 Inclusive design isn’t static — it’s responsive. And this innovation reminds us: accessibility isn’t separate from fashion tech — it should lead it.

Partnering with UNDP Ukraine: Fashion as a Tool for Recovery
We closed the year with a powerful milestone: leading a training for university lecturers across Ukraine, where inclusive and adaptive fashion will become a new subject in design schools.

I’m honoured to have been part of this initiative. And yet, it comes with complex emotions — because adaptive fashion is not just innovation here, it’s a necessity born from war.
The questions they asked were deep, urgent, and difficult — shaped by the reality they live in.

My hope? That one day, adaptive fashion won’t be needed because of conflict, but valued as a tool for equity, creativity, and human dignity.

🧵 Innovation Corner

If technology can adapt to our bodies...
Why is fashion still asking bodies to adapt to the clothes?

We’re seeing advances in sensory tech, responsive materials, and bio-design — but the real leap forward will come when disabled people lead that innovation.

What would it look like if every future-facing fashion lab had access consultants, disabled co-designers, and real-world use cases driving development?

Inclusion shouldn’t be added later.
It should shape the brief from the beginning.
